Uhuru’s Troubled Political Marriage

In 2007-2008, Williams Ruto and Raila Odinga were happily politically married couple unleashing untold atrocities upon innocent Kenyans in the Rift Valley before Ruto’s political marriage to Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013.

The couple started courting during the International Criminal Court at the Hague where they had been dumped by their former mpango ya kando partners President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila. Kibaki and Raila were the two men contesting for the presidency in 2007 but sacrificed the two as masterminds of the post election violence.

That is how Raila lost Ruto for good although their relationship started withering away when Raila failed to take State House tenancy as he had promised and appoint Ruto vice President. He would later disappoint Ruto further when he appointed Musalia Mudavadi as Deputy Prime Minister instead of him when they joined the Nusu Mkate government.

Why is Ruto so bitter when Uhuru takes Raila as his second political wife?

It is not unusual for ex-lovers to be envious of each other and develop rivalry when power and money come into play. Uhuru is sitting on the most powerful seat on the land that controls immense wealth. He is the envy of many other politicians and Ruto knows he is a heart beat from the throne of Power.

Some years before the ICC trials Raila and Ruto were what the Swahili call pete na kindole (a ring and a finger). They both deserted their political demigod Daniel arap Moi at his hour of need when he declared Uhuru Kenyatta as his preferred successor.

Soon after they gate-crashed at Kibaki’s homestead where he welcomed them in a union called National Rainbow Coalition (Narc) that uprooted Kenya African National Union (Kanu) from Power since 1963. After two years in 2005 the two and fellow deserters from Kanu championed a campaign against Constitution Referendum using Orange symbol and Kibaki’s government lost.

The Orange symbol gave birth to Raila’s Orange Democratic Party (ODM). The duo would soon after pack their belongings to begin campaign against the Kibaki government in the 2007 election and the rest is history.

Uhuru marriage to Ruto was to stop future recurrence of 2007-2008 Bloodbath. His marriage to Raila is to fight endemic corruption after finding out that his first political wife does not care about the social evil and he believes it cannot stop a leader (himself) from delivering.

Those who keep asking if Uhuru did not know that Ruto was corrupt in 2013 or 2017 must be single or very dishonest husbands and wives. Couples know each other well after several years of marriage. Some know their partners were gangsters from Television news when shot dead. The same with Politics!

Raila has been salivating for the same seat for years and Ruto has every reason to be concerned over the new-found love between Raila and Ruro – especially after starting his premature presidential campaign.

The deputy president has unleashed attacks on Raila at every public rally painting him as a home breaker out to destroy Jubilee house. He also invokes Uhuru’s name to remind Raila that he is next in the pecking order. He has also borrowed Raila’s publicity blitz in which media managers are well funded to keep his name in the airwaves and social media on a daily basis.

Kenyans are of late watching TV screens with baited anxiety as the love-triangle daily episodes unfold with Uhuru missing in action. With daily reports of lovers killing each other Kenyans have an opportunity to witness highly placed political lovers maul each other relentlessly.

None of the lovers has been seen with Uhuru since Safari ya China in which Raila accompanied Uhuru only to come back with the sand news that SGR would neither get to Ruto’s town of Eldoret or Raila’s City of Kisumu.

Can he get rid of any or both of them and form a new government?
